M4 closure this weekend between Slough and M25 as Smart Motorway work continues

Drivers in Berkshire set to face road closures this weekend as smart motorway works continue on a busy stretch of motorway.

The M4 will be closed to traffic between Friday, August 6 and the morning of Monday August 9.

Both the eastbound and westbound carriageway will be shut between junction 4b ( M25 interchange) and junction 5 ( Langley / Slough ) as work continues to convert the road into a Smart Motorway.

The closure will begin at 8pm on Friday, August 6 and the motorway is set to reopen to drivers by 6am on Monday, August 9.

Drivers have been urged to find alternative routes whilst the works go ahead this weekend - especially if you are a motorist travelling from either Reading or other areas of Berkshire to get to Heathrow Airport.

Alternative routes will be in place via the M25, M3 and M40, which may take longer on your journey, but all diversions will clearly signposted for travel this weekend.

Once the project is complete, the smart motorway is designed to help congestion on the stretch of the M4 and will use technology to monitor traffic flow and set speed limits.

This work will enable traffic to move smoothly.
