Sometimes you want to listen to Spotify offline but want to leave your phone at home. For times like these, Spotify has announced that you can now download Spotify audibles to your Apple Watch, instead.

The new feature is available only to Spotify Premium subscribers but provides a truly mobile music-listening experience – and independence from having to carry your phone around with you. This is great news for people who prefer phone-free outdoor runs or cycling excursions.

Until now, Apple Watch users could only enjoy music and podcasts on the go (and phone-free) using Apple Music.

Offline Spotify listening from your Apple Watch offers a number of benefits. For a start, you can play, pause, and skip tracks directly from your wrist. This ability to control playback extends to any device with the Spotify Connect feature.

To use offline listening, just tap on the three dots (…) above the audible (music or podcast) you wish to download and select “Download on Apple Watch.” Once it’s downloaded, your tracks, albums, or podcasts will be highlighted on your watch’s library with a green arrow next to their name.

The new feature was already available on wearables from other brands (i.e. the Samsung Galaxy Watch lineup), is a welcome new addition to the list of services already available on Apple Watch, like Connect & Control, or streaming to Siri.

The ability to download tracks for offline listening is also set to be released on Google Wear OS watches soon, as announced at Google’s I/O developer conference last week.
